For each book we will discuss big, juicy questions with friends. We will get curious about literary devices and explore grammar using the book itself as our guide. We will grow as writers through a book inspired writing project, and we will finish with a book club party. All books this semester are available as audiobooks for students who prefer that format.

Fiber Arts, Fairy Tales, and YOU!
$140
Taught by Mrs. Beth Buck
Most people associate the spinning wheel with fairy tales and fantasy novels. But did you know that prior to the Industrial Revolution, just about every family knew how to spin and weave? From the linen workshops to Ancient Egypt to Augustus Caesar's "family values" campaign to Ghandi's push for Indian independence, drop spindles and spinning wheels aren't a fantasy.
Part world history, part arts-and-crafts, part science, part "where does my clothes come from?".
Students can expect to learn the following:
preparation of wool (scouring, combing/carding, dyeing), spinning with a drop spindle, review of classic fairy tales, and introduction to some you've probably never heard of, all about silk, linen, cotton, and to actually spin straw into gold (not a joke!).
All materials provided.
